U.S. freight railroads are the world's busiest, moving more freight than any rail system in any other country. In fact, U.S. railroads move more than four times as much freight as do all of Western Europe's freight railroads combined. -aar.org
plan
The Whatcom Transportation Plan is a document which incorporates the policies and objectives of all of Whatcom County's jurisdictions to create a unified vision of transportation priorities, and serves as a guideline for future improvements to the region's transportation network.

The plan meets the requirements established by the U.S. Department of Transportation and incorporates feedback from local elected officials, transportation planners, and the public.

The current Whatcom Transportation Plan was approved in 2007. Although the plan does not need to be updated until 2012, the Whatcom Council of Governments continually collects feedback and ideas for the future version. CLICK FOR MORE INFORMATION.

In addition to the plan itself, the region has a Transportation Improvement Program list, which is the regional projects list and includes priorities and funding requirements for improvements to the region.CLICK FOR MORE INFORMATION

The Whatcom Council of Governments also developed the Employment Access and Coordinated Human-services Transportation Plan (EACH), which identified strategies to improve services to the whole community. CLICK FOR MORE INFORMATION.
