Land use determines demand for travel and the movement of goods. Transportation networks themselves are also a type of land use. As Whatcom County's population increases, and additional zoning requirements and changes are made, the transportation system must accomodate the growing number of goods and people that travel between and around our cities. Therefore it is important to create a county-wide land use plan that supports and enhances a coordinated transportation system and sustainable economic development throughout Whatcom County.
